FIBA has set the calendar for the final stages of World Cup qualification for the African Zone. The 12 remaining teams are thus fixed.
The second round teams are edified. The fourth qualifying window for the 2023 World Cup in Africa will be played from 26 to 28 August. The fifth and final round will be held from 24 to 26 February 2023. FIBA has set these dates, but has not yet announced the host cities.
Group E includes Guinea, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Angola and Uganda. Group F consists of South Sudan, Egypt, Tunisia, DR Congo, Senegal and Cameroon.
In the first match of Group E, Nigeria will face Côte d'Ivoire, unbeaten in six matches. The disqualification of Mali has pushed FIBA to dust off the article D.3.3 of the official rules of basketball. This allows for an equitable ranking of the teams in pool E (from groups A and C).
The games of the first round against the team ranked last in group C (Central African Republic, behind Ivory Coast, Angola and Guinea, editor's note) will not be taken into account for the classification in group E. Thus, all teams in this group will have the same number of matches to play.
On the other hand, the teams of group F (South Sudan, Egypt, Tunisia, DR Congo, Senegal and Cameroon) keep their points recorded during the first phase. Senegal-South Sudan and Egypt-Tunisia will be the big games of the first day of the fourth window of the group.
