CAF Awards 2022: Senegal only left crumbs - Videos

CAF Awards 2022: Senegal only left crumbs - Videos

Senegal won almost everything at the CAF Awards 2022. From the title of "Best Player" to the "Coach of the Year" and the "Best Team", the African champions have left only crumbs to the competitors. The awards were held on Thursday night in Morocco.

Sadio Mané without surprise

It is without any surprise that Sadio Mané won the title of "African Player" of the year. The new Bayern Munich striker was phenomenal during the period from September 2021 to June 2022 taken into account by CAF. Sadio Mané was then the ultra-favorite to win his second golden ball in history (2019, 2022) equaling the legend El Hadji Diouf (2001, 2002). The former Liverpool player has shone and made his partners shine in club and country. He won the AFCON 2021, elected "Best Player" of the tournament, a status of vice-champion of England. In addition to the Champions League final lost, not to mention sending Senegal to a second consecutive World Cup, Sadio is simply magic. It should also be noted that since his return to the African Cup, he scored 17 goals in 31 matches in all competitions.

Aliou Cissé finally rewarded

He failed twice in his quest. Coming in behind Hervé Renard in 2018 and Djamel Belmadi in 2019, Aliou Cissé has taken his revenge this time. The Senegalese national coach has just won the prestigious title of "Best Coach" of the continent. Legitimate since Cissé has offered Senegal its first continental title in addition to qualifying his country for the second consecutive time to the World Cup after that of 2018. During this period taken into account by CAF, Cisse has played with Senegal 16 games, all competitions combined. For 11 wins and 4 draws.

The other winners

Senegal continued to get the other collective and individual distinctions. The Teranga Lions are crowned "national selection" of the year. Not to mention the title of "Best young player" of the continent won by Pape Matar Sarr or that of "most beautiful goal" of the year won by Pape Oumar Sakho of Simba Sc (Tanzania).

For the other prizes, Asisat Oshoala (Nigeria) was elected "African player of the year". The Egyptian Mohamed El Shewany is the "Best interclub player". Mamelodi Sundows and WAC won the award for the best African female and male team respectively. South Africa's coach Desiree Ellis won the award for "Best Female Coach" on the continent.
