CAF Champions League: Confirmation for Wydad or revenge for Al Ahly

The winner of the Confederation of African Football Champions League will be crowned this Sunday 11 June at 19:00 GMT. Wydad host Al Ahly of Cairo, who won the first leg 2-1. The goal scored by Wydad on Egyptian soil is worth its weight in gold. In any case, all the excitement, the confidence on both sides and above all the high stakes of the match resulted from that goal. Which means the final is still wide open.

Consistency versus unpredictability
At 7pm on Sunday 11 June, Al Ahly are back to their best since the knockout stages, while Wydad remain unpredictable. The Cairo giants were clinical in their 3-0 defeat of Raja in the first leg, but controlled the return leg with a 0-0 draw. In the semi-finals, the machine unwound on the road in Tunis with another 3-0 win. In the return leg they won 1-0 without forcing the issue. In the final, unfortunately, the Wydadis were always affected but never sunk. Indeed, the red waves did not get the better of the Moroccans, who had been dominated for so long. Against the run of play and against all expectations, they managed to score a goal and keep up the suspense in the return leg, much to the delight of football fans. Since the quarter-finals, Wydad have been the only team to score a goal against Percy Tao's side.

Wydad, on the other hand, did well in the group stage, but were more or less sluggish once the quarter-finals got underway. After beating Simba in Casablanca, Wydad lost by the same scoreline in the return leg, but made it through to the semi-finals on penalties. In the semi-final against Mamelodi Sundows, the Wydadis made do with what they had after suffering through a 0-0 draw. However, they managed a miraculous 2-2 draw in South Africa after suffering so much. This team is characterised by its unsuspected resources. They are never impressed by their opponents. This was confirmed in the first leg against Al Ahly in Cairo, as mentioned above.
