CAF Champions League: Sundowns will qualify for semi finals – Coach Mokwena

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has said he is confident his team will qualify for the semi final stage of the 2021/2022 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

Despite losing the first leg of the quarter final 2-1 away to Petro de Luanda at the Estadio 11 de Novembro in Angola last Saturday, Mokwena says they will make it to the later stages of the competition.

The coach made it clear that although they work hard to try and win every match, sometimes a team cannot win. “But we lost the right match because it gives us many lessons. It also reminds us that we are not invincible,” added the coach.

Mokwena made it clear that in a humble way they accept the defeat and take a lesson from it. “We shall watch the game over and over again and do the corrections. But we shall be in the semi finals,” stressed a confident Mokwena.

Dennis Onyango, the Sundowns Ugandan goalkeeper who made a return after several matches due to injury simply said the return leg in South Africa will also be a tough contest.

“Petro de Luanda are not an easy side and they showed that in the first leg. But we are going back to the drawing board to make sure we plan and win the return leg and qualify for the semi finals,” added Onyango.

Mamelodi Sundowns lifted the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League trophy in 2016 under the guidance of Pitso Mosimane, now coach of Al Ahly (Egypt).
