CAF Champions League: We must prepare better for quarter final stage - Simba Coach Oliveira

The head coach of Simba SC, Roberto Oliviera ‘Robertinho’ has made it clear that they must quickly start planning for good preparations ahead of the quarter final stage of the 2022/2023 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

Oliveira told Sports News Africa that after qualifying for the quarter final last weekend, they must now focus and plan for the quarter final stage.

The Tanzania Premier League side Simba SC booked a place in the quarter final stage of Africa’s lucrative Club tournament after demolishing Guinea’s AC Horoya 7-0 in a Group C match played last Saturday at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es salaam.

With 9 points and second in Group C, Simba SC have already made it to the quarter final stage with one match against leaders Raja Casablanca that they must play in Morocco.

“I am glad that we have worked hard to qualify for the quarter final stage with one more group match to play against Raja Casablanca. But making it to the next stage means more work must be done and we must start now,” reasoned the Brazilian.

Oliviera praised his players for their hard work and being able to score many goals against Horoya that beat them 1-0 in their first meeting in Guinea.

The Brazilian coach who joined Simba SC in January from Uganda’s Vipers SC has made it clear that he is happy that his team is starting to play the kind of football that he wants.

“I joined Simba SC in January and of course it takes a coach some time to adjust and get to know players better and apply the tactics that work best,” he added.

Oliveira made it clear that his target is to perform well in the Champions League and also in the local competitions like the Tanzania Premier League and the Azam knockout Cup. In the Tanzania Premier League Simba SC are second behind arch-rivals Young Africans SC with an eight point difference.

Two years ago Simba SC also reached the quarter final stage of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions, and reached the same stage last year in the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
