A one way traffic as many will say there was no match up in strengths and depth of the game. The Egyptian giants Al Ahly beat ES Setif in the first leg of their CAF Champions League semi-final on Saturday 7 May. The Red Devils were never troubled by their opponents in this match and played their football with ease to finally win 4-0.
The defending champions who had a tougher road to the semi finals quickly entered auto pilot mode especially galvanizing support from their home crowd in Cairo. They first found the breakthrough through Percy Tau with a diving header from a cross on the half-hour mark after a series of missed chances and a disallowed goal. The visitors were in trouble and were reduced to ten men after 35 minutes when Amir Karaoui was sent off.
In the second half, Pitso Mosimane's men took advantage of their numerical superiority to stun the Algerians. Taher Mohamed doubled the lead in the 54th minute from a Persie Tau assist, before Mohamed Sherif added to it in the 72nd minute. The African champions were superior in every respect, but they did not want to stop there. Percy Tau scored twice in the dying seconds to further distant the chances for the visitors. With this victory, the Egyptians take a big option for the final, until the return match next Saturday.
Al Ahly are looking poise for a third successive CAF Champions League title on the continent. They have just two more games to meet that feat.
