Petro Luanda became the first club to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Champions League thanks to their draw with Al Hilal. Victorious Madeama SC, Al Ahly have taken a good option for the quarter-finals. Already qualified, Asec Mimosas had to settle for a draw against Simba SC.
Petro Luanda in CAF Champions League quarter-finals
Petro Luanda have qualified for the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League. Travelling to Khartoum to play Al-Hilal on Friday, February 23, as part of Matchday 5 of the Champions League, the Angolans held the Sudanese club to a draw. The match ended goalless. Enough to send Petro through to the quarter-finals. The Angolan outfit (9 pts) are currently top of Group C, 4 points ahead of nearest pursuers Al Hilal (5 pts).
Having already qualified for the quarter-finals on Matchday 4, Asec Mimosas drew with Simba SC (0-0). With 11 points, the Ivorians are guaranteed top spot in Pool B. The second ticket in this group will be decided between Simba SC (6 pts), Jwaneng Galaxy (4 pts) and Wydad (3 pts). The latter two clubs meet on Saturday, February 24, on Matchday 5 of the CAF Champions League.
In Group D, Al-Ahly scored a decisive victory.
The Egyptians overcame Madeama SC by the slimmest of margins. Hussein El Shahat scored the only goal of the game (48th). The win consolidates the Cairo outfit's position as group leaders with 9 points.Algeria's CR Belouizdad are second with 5 points.
