Simba SC have taken the lead in Group D of the CAF Cup as they await the RS Berkane vs USGN match. The Tanzanians dominated ASEC Mimosas 3-1. Senegalese winger Pape Ousmane Sakho opened the scoring with a beautiful goal after only 12 minutes. It is the first goal in this group phase of the 2021-2022 CAF Cup. After the Ivorians had managed to equalize thanks to Burkinabe Stephane Ki (60'), Simba SC regained the lead with a goal from Shomari Kapombe (78'). Peter Banda sealed the score at 3-1 in the 81st minute.

In Lubumbashi, TP Mazembe also had a successful start to the season. The Corbeaux came out on top against Otoho of the Republic of Congo (1-0). The only goal of the game was scored by Cameroonian Richard Emmanuel Njoh (37th). The Lushois are leaders of group C after this first day because Coton Sport and El Masry shared the spoils in Garoua (0-0) in the other group game.
