CAF Cup: Clean sheets for Berkane and USMA as Club Africain fall to Rivers

Day 3 of the CAF Cup has delivered its verdict. RS Berkane and USM Alger made it a clean sweep by winning their 3rd consecutive match. Club Africain were trapped by Rivers United, while Dream FC scored a valuable away win against Académica Lobito.

Group B: Abu Salem's CAF Cup triumph

Abu Salem defeated Co Coyah 1-0 on Sunday, December 10, on Matchday 3 of the CAF Cup. The Libyan club scored thanks to Mohamed Elhadi (61st). The victory puts the Libyans in 2nd place in Group B with 6 points, just behind Zamalek (9 points), who beat Sagrada (1-0) on Saturday December 9. Coyah are bottom of the group with zero points.

Club Africain upset by Rivers United

After an impressive and important away win against Académica Lobito (1-3), Club Africain failed to repeat the feat against Rivers United. The Tunisian club lost to the Nigerians (1-0). Nyima Nekabari Nwagua scored the only goal of the match. The Nigerian striker thus collected 3 precious points. Rivers United are now level on points with their opponents (6 points).

Club Africain (2nd) missed a real opportunity to remain alone at the top of Group C. Worse still, the Tunisians were overtaken by Dream FC (1st) on goal difference. The Ghanaian club pulled off a fine operation with a 2-3 away win over Académica Lobito. The Ghanaians are now leaders (6 points) and could consolidate their position on Matchday 4. They host the Angolans (4th) on Wednesday December 20.

RSB solid leaders

RS Berkane showed no mercy against the Diables Noirs. The Moroccan club won by 2-0. Youssef Zghoudi opened the scoring in the 28th minute before Mohamed El Mourabit made it 2-0 in the 58th minute. This was RSB's 3rd consecutive victory and they remain solid leaders of Group D. Diables noirs are last with zero points.

In the other match in the group, Stade Malien took a precious point from South Africa against Sekhukhune United. The two teams played out a goalless draw (0-0). The Malians occupy 2nd place with 4 points, level on points with their opponents. They will host the South Africans on Matchday 4.

USM reassure themselves against Modern Future

USM Alger came from behind to beat Modern Future on Sunday December 10 in the 3rd round of the CAF Cup. The Algerian club won (1-0) thanks to a goal from Abdoulaye Kanu (65th). This was the Tunisians' 3rd victory in as many games, and they are now alone at the top of Group A. The Egyptian club remain 2nd with 6 points.

Al-Hilal, 2-1 winners over Supersport United, occupy 3rd place with 3 points. The South Africans will need to win at home on the next matchday to stay alive in the competition.
