Orlando Pirates may not be doing very well in the DSTV Premier Soccer League in South Africa but the team is waxing strong in the CAF Confederation Cup competition this year. They are in the semi finals after overturning an away narrow defeat to beat Tanzanian champions Simba SC in the second leg quarter finals played this Sunday in Durban.
Simba SC eventually lost on penalties. The Tanzanians arrived in South Africa with just a 1-0 lead from the first leg of their CAF Cup quarter-final in Dar-es-Salam and were unable to qualify for the semi-finals. They were eliminated by Orlando Pirates. Simba SC were set off track when their striker Magalu was shown a red card in the 58th minute.
Orlando Pirates came back into the game through Ghanaian striker Peprah (60'). The South African club then went on to win 1-0 in normal time. In the penalty shoot-out, the South African team proved to be more skillful, winning 4-3. In the semi-finals, the Pirates will face the winner of the Libyan derby Al Ahli Tripoli vs Al Ittihad Tripoli.
