The fierce and recent rivalry between South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns and Egyptians Al Ahly has once again been reinvented following the CAF inter club draws for the group stages of the Champions League and Confederation Cup 2022/23 season. The draws were conducted on Monday December 12, 2022.
The group of death visibly will be Group B which promises a good show with Al Ahly (Egypt), Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), El Hilal (Sudan) and Coton Sport (Cameroon).
The defending champion, Wydad Casablanca, is in group A. The Moroccans will face Atlético Petróleos de Luanda (Angola). They will then have a North African derby against JS Kabylie of Algeria. The last member of this group is AS Vita Club of Congo.
CAF also had things heated up in group D with Esperance of Tunis, Zamalek (Egypt), CR Belouizdad (Algeria) and Al Merreikh (Sudan).
In CAF Confederation Cup, some big are not spared. TP Mazembe can attest to this since the Congolese club, demoted from the Champions League, is in a group D that can be a bit tricky with US Monastir (Tunisia), Young Africans (Tanzania) and AS Real Bamako (Mali). Another relegated from the Champions League, Asec Mimosas, will be in group B with Nigerians of Rivers United, the Congolese of Brazzaville of Diables Noirs as well as the Congolese of Kinshasa of DCMP. Also noteworthy are two Egyptian clubs in Group C with Pyramids FC and Future FC. They will be with the Moroccans of AS FAR.
Regarding the calendar of this CAF Cup, the first day begins on February 12 and ends on April 2.
