The Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) is coming out of its silence. The body headed by Samuel Eto'o has denied reports that it has received 550 million CFA francs (nearly 843 thousand euros) representing part of the 560 million CFA francs (nearly 860 thousand euros) as a subsidy from the state to clubs in professional football leagues.
"This money has never been made available to the Cameroon Football Federation," the acting secretary general of Fécafoot revealed in a statement. While the Paymaster of the Ministry of Sports, responding to a request for explanations from the Minister of Finance indicated the contrary in a note signed on June 28, 2022. "According to the means at my disposal, the sum of five hundred and fifty million CFA francs (550 000 000) has been the subject of successive partial payments to the accounting officer of Fecafoot, between 18 and 27 April 2022," wrote the Paymaster.
This executive of the Cameroonian civil service insisted on the fact that "in view of the emergency reported, these payments were made by cash advance, pending the consequent budgetary coverage". But Fécafoot persists and signs: "the Federation is not aware of an instruction prescribing the payment of a subsidy of 550 million CFA francs to its benefit as the note of the specialized paymaster suggests.
