Real Madrid's 3-1 win over Manchester City in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final was another great performance.
With 15 minutes left in the game, Real Madrid were already facing a home exit. Riyad Mahrez's sublime, left-footed goal (73rd) had already finished extinguishing the Santiago Bernabeu. As football always has that element of magic, irrationality and twists and turns, Real completely changed the scoreboard. At a time when nobody expected it and nobody believed it. Except, the Real players and their coach Carlo Ancelotti. Substitute Rodrygo scored twice in the last minutes of the game to put Madrid 2-1 up.
The remake of the 2018 final against Liverpool
In just two minutes, Real turned everything on its head. Yes, everything. Two goals from Rodrygo (90, 91st), Manchester City are down. Pep Guardiola is pensive and plunged into deep doubt. The semi-final was a bit of a wash and the Champions League final was slipping through his fingers. Pushed into extra time, the Citizens were about to break down completely. The inevitable Karim Benzema, again, brought the score to 3-1 (95th). What a monster of a player! What a match!
The road to the finals has not been smooth for the 13 time champions. After the beautiful come back against Paris Saint-Germain, in the second leg of the round of 16 on March 9 (3-1), a semi-final a week ago in England (4-3) against City, Real, like a hurricane demolishes everything in its path, including the current cup holders Chelsea at the quarter finals.
The Madrid side thus offer themselves a remake of the 2018 edition against Liverpool who had lost by 3-1.
