The Burundi A' national team will travel to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, this Wednesday, July 20, where they will play Djibouti in the first round of CHAN 2023 qualifiers. The two countries do not have approved stadiums and have agreed to play both games at the Bejamin Mkapa Stadium. The first leg is scheduled for July 24 and the second leg will be played on July 29.
Jimmy Ndayizeye, Burundi's national coach, has selected 21 players for the double confrontation. "Some people think that we will have an easy match but they are very wrong. We must be careful because Djibouti soccer has changed greatly in recent years," said Ndayizeye. The winner of this double confrontation will play against Sudan between 26 and 28 August 2022.
During the preparations for these qualifications for the African Nations Championship, Burundi has played two games. The first against Vital'o (1-0). The second against a team of Burundian players playing mostly in Tanzania and Rwanda on vacation (1-0).
Burundi will be eyeing to participate for the very first time in the African Nations Championship, a tournament that is reserved for national team players based in the respective championships.
