Comoros vs Ghana: A Comorian supporter killed by an "accidental" shot

There is shock and dismay in the Comoros.A week after their victory over Ghana in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, the Comoros national team has lost one of its supporters. Hit in the forehead by an accidental shot during the match, the 21-year-old died in hospital on Tuesday November 28.

The Comoros team was on cloud nine on November 21. The Coelacanths had created a sensation by beating Ghana 1-0 in Group I of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The Comoros thus picked up their first points. However, an unfortunate incident occurred during the match. A 21-year-old Comorian fan was hit in the forehead by an "accidental shot" from a soldier, reports AFP. Transported to hospital, Fahad Moindze was evacuated to Tanzania for treatment. He died in hospital on Tuesday, November 28. "I'm in pain, I have no words, my nephew is dead", confided Sitti Ahamada, the deceased young man's aunt, reached by telephone by AFP.

In the confusion, Fahad Moindze was shot by a soldier who was part of the security detail. Government spokesman Houmed Msaidie commented on the incident. The accident "was caused by the accidental handling of a weapon, but it all stems from the fact that there was a stampede linked to a crowd desperate to get into the stadium", he told AFP.

However, this explanation did not go down well with the local population. Civil society and NGOs are protesting against police blunders. "Police blunders must not go unpunished", insisted lawyer Djamal El-Dine Bacar. The Comoros Supporters' Club, for its part, intends to "take the matter to the authorities through a complaint against X for this blunder."
