The world football governing body has suspended it’s members Kenya and Zimbabwe because of government interference in football affairs.
FIFA made the communication on Thursday through a live press conference by the President Gianni Infantino.
Infantino made it clear that they have unfortunately had to suspend their members Kenya and Zimbabwe because of government interference. “These members know what to do for the suspension to be lifted,” said Infantino.
In a letter signed by the FIFA Secretary General, Fatma Samoura she states that the suspension was a decision taken by the FIFA Council during their meeting held on February 24th.
“We inform you that, based on the decision taken by the FIFA Council on 24 February 2022, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has been suspended with article 16 of the FIFA Statutes until further notice,” stated the communication.
She made it clear that this means Kenya loses all its membership rights with immediate effect. “FKF representatives and club teams are therefore no longer entitled to take part in international competitions until the suspension is lifted. Thi also means that neither the FKF nor any of its members or officials may benefit from any development programmes, courses or training from FIFA or CAF,” the communication further states.
The development comes after the government of Kenya last year banned the executive led by Nick Mwendwa and installed a caretaker committee to run football in the Country.
