FIFA The Best: Edouard Mendy crowned best keeper

Edouard Mendy has won the title of best goalkeeper in FIFA The Best. The Senegalese goalkeeper beat Italy's Gianluigi Donnarumma (PSG), winner of the Yachin Trophy, and Germany's Manuel Neuer.

Another trophy to crown Edouard Mendy's stratospheric year. The Senegalese goalkeeper has just won the FIFA The Best goalkeeper award. Mendy is ahead of France Football's Yachine Trophy winner Gianluigi Donnarumma (PSG) and Manuel Neuer (Bayern). A consolation prize after being overlooked by France Football. At the Ballon d'Or ceremony, it was the Italian Donnarumma who took the spotlight from Mendy. This caused a total lack of understanding among football fans. Mendy, king of the clean-sheets The Lion of Teranga has earned a well-deserved title after his crazy 2020-2021 season with Chelsea. And the figures speak for themselves. Champions League winner Edouard Mendy has made his 35th clean-sheet this year in 60 Premier League games. The 29-year-old goalkeeper has conceded just one goal in the Champions League group stage this season, making it three clean-sheets.

A title that should further motivate the Senegalese who starts his AFCON on Tuesday with the Lions of Teranga. Mendy tested negative for Covid 19.

Levandowski and Tuchel crowned

After Edouard Mendy, another title goes to Chelsea. Thomas Tuchel has been crowned coach of the year 2021. The German is ahead of Pep Guardiola (Manchester City) and Roberto Mancini (Italy). Poland's Robert Lewandowski won the best player award ahead of Lionel Messi and Mohamed Salah. The Bayer Munich striker thus becomes the first player to win this title in two consecutive years.
