FIFA WC Qualifiers 2022: DRC start preparations for final phase

The national team of the Democratic Republic of Congo has embarked on preparations ahead of the final phase of the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers.

DR Congo are among the ten teams that qualified in Africa for the final phase of the qualifiers.

The 27-man team under experienced Argentine coach Hector Cuper have pitched camp in Egypt to prepare for the crucial stage. The head coach has also retained TP Mazembe player and former national team skipper Tresor Mputu.

According to the Democratic Republic of Congo Football Federation (FECOFA) the camp will run from December 27 to January 8, 2022. The Leopards are also planning to have two friendly matches with some of the local teams.

Cuper said besides preparing some of the players for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, some of them will be part of the team that will play in the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers next year.

CAF confirmed that the draw for the FIFA World Cup 2022 play-off draw will take place January 26th, 2022.

The other teams that qualified for the final phase of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers include; Cameroon, Mali, Egypt, Ghana, Senegal, Morocco, Algeria, Nigeria and Tunisia.

DR Congo qualified for the final phase of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers after topping Group J that also had Benin, Tanzania and Madagascar.
