Since 2019, fans of African football have not witnessed a CAF Awards ceremony. But the body has decided to give a date for the return of the ceremony, next July.
The CAF Awards ceremony, which honors African football, will make a comeback. The African football governing body has issued a statement to this effect. The date? July 21, in Morocco. A return since the last edition took place in 2019. That of 2020 did not take place because of Covid.
"This year's edition of the prestigious African football awards ceremony, the CAF Awards 2022, will return on Thursday, July 21, 2022 in Morocco. The CAF Awards will be held prior to the final of Africa's flagship women's competitions, the TotalEnergy Women's Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2022 scheduled to take place from 2-23 July 2022," a statement reads.
Apart from the best players in the male and female categories, CAF further states. "The other categories include the interclub player of the year, the young player of the year, the national team of the year, the coach of the year, the club of the year, the goal of the year. The winners will be decided by the votes of the captains and coaches of the member associations, selected journalists, the CAF technical study group and the CAF legends.
For these awards, CAF has chosen as a performance window, between September 2021 and June 2022. At the last CAF Awards held in 2019, Sadio Mané received the trophy for the best African player in the Men's category. While in the women's category, Nigeria's Asisat Oshoala won the award.
