Is the Napoli midfielder on the outs with the Bayern Munich striker? In a live chat on Tik Tok, the former brought clarifications.
The controversy was born during the 2021 African Cup of Nations. Cameroon fans had not yet digested the elimination of the Indomitable Lions in the semi-finals by the Pharaohs of Egypt. On February 4th, a video caught their attention: André-Franck Zambo Anguissa was seen making a gesture that looked like a refusal to shake hands with Maxim Choupo-Moting.
The scene made rounds on social networks and would be the proof that the Napoli midfielder and the Bayern Munich striker are on the outs.
Three months have passed. If we go by the explanations of Zambo Anguissa, who is currently with the selection for the needs of the AFCON 2023 qualifications, the video had been misinterpreted.
"Choupo-Moting, he's a 'peaceful and loving guy"
"I was too upset about the game," the 26-year-old recalls in a live stream on Tik Tok. I was explaining a situation to Clinton (Nji, who missed a penalty in that game). I wasn't even looking at who was next to me. I saw a hand (Choupo-Moting's, editor's note), I tapped it off me. With the adrenaline of the match and everything... At the time, I don't even remember checking Max (Choupo-Moting)."
The player, who played for Fulham and Villarreal, regrets that his gesture was misinterpreted.
So it's not always true that a picture is worth a thousand words.
