Football - Galtier affair: Algerians, "King Kong" ... damning testimony

The revelations came to light on Tuesday December 05, 2023. The daily L'Equipe revealed the content of the testimonies of Christophe Galtier's accusers. Several African players are involved.

Christophe Galtier's trial will officially open on Friday December 15, 2023. The former Nice and PSG coach will stand trial for "charges of moral harassment and discrimination on the grounds of actual or supposed membership or non-membership of a particular ethnic group, nation, alleged race or religion". Prior to this date, L'Equipe published the various confessions of the parties involved. Several players and African workers in his entourage gave incriminating testimonies. Frédéric Gioria, former assistant coach at Nice, says that when Algerian international Bilal Brahimi arrived in January 2022, Galtier was not at all pleased. "Another Muslim, I don't want him, we've had enough," he reportedly commented.

Two other Algerians also took the piss: Youcef Atal and Hicham Boudaoui. Christophe Galtier is said to have called them "dirty types", with the added comment that "the worst are the Algerians". However, the accusations against the coach also concern other players. During a Saint-Etienne-Nice match (September 25, 2021), when the Saint-Etienne defense was made up of Moukoudi-Mickaël Nadé, former Nice video assistant Ali Mbaé claimed that the coach had called them "two King Kongs".

Slimani, another victim? Christophe Galtier is also said to have refused to sign Islam Slimani in the summer of 2021. According to Hachim Ali Mbaé, the coach didn't want him because he was due to leave for the African Cup of Nations in January 2022. Ramadan 2022 also posed a problem.

As a result, Christophe Galtier turned to another Algerian, Andy Delort. As luck would have it, the latter decided to put his international career on "pause" just a few weeks after his arrival. As a result, he missed the AFCON
