The President of the Malian Football Federation (Femafoot), Mamoutou Touré "Bavieux", was remanded in custody on Wednesday August 9 by the Economic and Financial Pole of Mali.
Mamoutou Touré "Bavieux", former Administrative and Financial Director of Mali's National Assembly and President of the Malian Football Federation (Femafoot), is on the list of people suspected of infringing public state property and forgery. The charges against him dates back from 2013 to 2019. The news broke on Wednesday August 9.
Femafoot president Mamoutou Touré, a candidate in his own succession, has been remanded in custody at the Maison Centrale d'Arrêt in Bamako. He was charged and placed under a committal order after his hearing by economic and financial pole judge Lassine Fofana, "for infringement of public property as well as forgery and use of forgeries."
The election of the new executive board is scheduled for August 29.
The judge of the economic and financial pole has notably placed under warrant several personalities in this affair known as the National Assembly of Mali. They are charged with offences against public property, forgery and complicity. In addition to the president of the institution, Issiaka Sidibé, a former president of AS Real de Bamako, the current president of Femafoot is among them. Modibo Sidibé, the institution's general secretary, and a former accountant are also in custody. They are all suspected of embezzling "17 billion, including 7 billion in irregular indemnities and 10 billion in unjustified payments", according to sources close to the case.
On August 29, the Malian Football Federation (Femafoot) will choose a new president. Four lists of candidates were received and examined by the Electoral Commission of First Instance, which selected only two (02). Salaha Baby and Mamoutou Touré "Bavieux". Salaha Baby's candidacy was invalidated by the Appeals Electoral Commission.
This followed an appeal lodged by candidate Mamoutou Touré.Meanwhile, the appeal lodged by candidate Salaha Baby concerning his opponent's integrity questionnaire was rejected by the same commission. The same goes for Sekouba Diogo Keita, former Femafoot vice-president in charge of administration. He criticized the entire electoral process and pointed the finger at the independent commissions.Salaha Baby's team rejected the appeal by the appeals committee and referred the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). This opens the way to uncertainty with 20 days to go before the election.
