Last weekend, Tarik Tissoudali confirmed his return to form. The Moroccan striker scored twice. This was further proof that last season's serious injury is behind him.
On Sunday, December 03, Tarik Tissoudali helped La Gantoise to a 2-2 draw at Genk. The Moroccan striker scored twice, with the equalizer in the 99th minute. La Gantoise are now in third place (29 pts), 9 points behind leaders Union Saint-Gilloise.
Last season, Tarik Tissoudali received a poisoned chalice with the arrival of Gift Orban. The Nigerian piled up goals like pearls, while the Moroccan sat on the bench. However, Tissoudali had just returned from a cruciate ligament rupture that ruled him out of the 2022 World Cup with Morocco. On his return, he made just 5 starts in 15 appearances in all competitions, scoring 2 goals and providing 1 assist. Tissoudali's figures, however, are totally different for 2023-2024. In 20 games across all competitions (11 starts), the 30-year-old goleador has already scored 9 times and provided 4 assists. Not to mention his 2 goals and 2 assists in the preliminary rounds of the Europa Conference League.
Ready for the AFCON
Another positive aspect of his start to the season is his return to the national team.He was one of the key players in the 2021-2022 season, where he exploded onto the scene with 24 goals and 6 assists in 46 appearances. Tarik Tissoudali also played a big part in Morocco's success at the 2022 World Cup. The striker scored in both legs of the play-off against DR Congo. First in Kinshasa to secure a draw, then a goal and an assist in the 4-1 home win that sealed their ticket to Qatar.
Tarik Tissoudali's serious injury and poor form on his return did not help his cause, and it took him a long time to return to the Atlas Lions' squad. Nevertheless, Walid Regragui called him up in October 2023, when he came on against Liberia. And with the AFCON 2023 kicking off on January 13, Youssef En-Nesyri's place as understudy is vacant. It's up to him to continue at his own pace, and the adventure in Côte d'Ivoire will be with him.
