Football - Serie A: New and decisive season for four Africans

Some are already regulars in Italian soccer, others are newcomers, but they are all looking to shine in the season that starts this Saturday. Four African internationals are on our must-watch list.

Andre Onana

Although he made a decent AFCON 2021 in Cameroon, the return to the top level is still complicated for a sportsman deprived of competition for 9 months due to a suspension for doping. After a few appearances at the end of the season with Ajax, the Cameroonian goalkeeper has freely committed himself to Inter Milan at 26 years. If the first objective is to tussle the 38-year-old number 1 goalkeeper, Handanovic, André Onana has shown a lot of qualities against Lyon in preparation. The Cameroonian could give Inzaghi headaches if he takes advantage of the rotation to make great performances in Serie A or C1. Cameroon is counting on his competitiveness for the World Cup 2022.

Wilfried Singo

Author of a very good season with Torino, Wilfried Singo is a rising star in Serie A. He is a talented right-back and has often played in the left flank of the opposing team with 3 goals and 4 assists in the league. At 21 years old, Singo will have to make a name for himself once again by 2023. In fact, to start the season well, the Ivorian piston has delivered an assist in the Italian Cup.

Assan Ceesay

After a prolific last season in the Super League (20 goals and 11 assists), the Gambian forward joins Lecce as the second highest scorer in the Swiss league. Assan Ceesay replaces the top scorer of Serie B (2nd Italian division) Massimo Coda who left for Genoa. This will be the 28-year-old former Casa Sports (Senegal) player's debut in a major European league.

Youssef Maleh

One of the surprises of Fiorentina last season, Youssef Maleh has shone in his first starts at the top level. The Moroccan midfielder scored 3 goals and 4 assists in all competitions. Often competing with Ghanaian Alfred Duncan on the right side of midfield, Maleh seemed to have an advantage at the beginning of the season due to his regular starts in preparation. However, both have been interesting in 2022. It remains to be seen what will happen in the new season.
