Football - Tanzania: Simba can win Tanzania Premier League says Coach Pablo Franco

The head coach of Simba Sports Club, Pablo Franco has said they still have a chance to retain the NBC Tanzania Premier League title.

Simba SC who were eliminated by Orlando Pirates at the quarter final stage of the TotalEnergies Confederation Cup beat Ruvu Shooting 4-1 in a League match played yesterday.

The win saw coach Pablo Franco’s team narrow the gap on table leaders  Young Africans SC to 10 points. Denis Kibu gave Simba a half time lead, before Rally Bwalya and John Bocco added two more goals to give Simba a 3-0 lead.

Haruna Chanongo pulled a goal back for Ruvu Shooting after 83 minutes, but Henock Inonga also got his name on the score sheet for Simba SC.

The win took Simba SC to 46 points, while Young Africans SC who were held to a goalless draw by the same Ruvu Shooting on May 4th have 56 points from the same 22 matches played.

The Simba SC coach made it clear that although they are 10 points behind the leaders, with a large number of matches left anything can happen and we are not disappointed.

He made it clear that after drawing 0-0 with Young Africans on April 30th, they put ourselves in a difficult position to defend the title. But he added that due to the tight schedule anything could happen.

"As I said in the past, the championship race is still open. We are 10 points behind but if they lead they will continue to drop points and if we win ours we can defend the title,” added the Simba SC coach.

Young Africans SC could increase their lead to 13 points later today if they pick maximum points against Tanzania Prisons FC. Third placed Azam FC who have 32 points will return to action against Mbeya City on Tuesday, while Simba Sc face Kagera City FC on May 11th.
