Football - Uganda’s Vipers SC sack head coach Luiz Bianchi Pelliser

After a poor show in the on-going group stage of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, Uganda’s Vipers SC have sacked head coach Roberto Luiz Bianchi Pelliser.

The club announced that they had parted ways with the head coach in a communication on March 9th, 2023.

“Vipers Sports Club announces that the contract of head Coach Beto Bianchi has been terminated with immediate effect. The club would like to thank Bianchi for his tireless efforts during his time at the club and wish him success in his future endeavours,” said the communication.

The 56-year old Bianchi joined Vipers SC in January this year and signed a two year contract. He had replaced another fellow Brazilian Roberto Oliveira who stepped down and immediately joined Tanzania Premier League side, Simba Sports Club.

He had been assigned to work together with countryman Roberto Martinez as the assistant who will also leave the position. Richard Wasswa who has been the second assistant coach will now act as the caretaker coach, while Ibrahim Mugisha remains as the goalkeepers’ coach.

Since taking over as coach of Vipers SC, the team did not score any goal in open play in seven matches. They drew goalless in a League match against Wakiso Giants FC, drew goalless in the Uganda Cup knock out matches against Bujumbura United and Jinja North FC, but eventually won on penalty kicks.

At the International stage under Bianchi the Club started the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League campaign with a 5-0 defeat away to Raja Casablanca in Morocco, drew goalless with Guinea’s AC Horoya in Uganda, and lost 1-0 in each of the matches played at home and away to Tanzania’s Simba SC.

Vipers SC will return to action next week for a Uganda Cup match against Wakiso Giants, and later host Raja Casablanca on March 18th, 2023 at their St. Mary's Stadium, Kitende.

Before joining Vipers SC, Luiz Bianchi Pelliser managed Spanish club teams Ciudad de Murcia, Atlético Ciudad, Zamora and Lorca Deportiva. He also coached in Indonesia, Jordan, Angola and Kuwait.
