Hasifah Nassuna: First player to score 100 goals in Uganda Women’s Premier League

Uganda’s international player Hasifah Nassuna has become the first player to score 100 goals in the Uganda Women’s Premier League.

Nassuna netted her 100th goal when he team Uganda Christian University (UCU) Lady Cardinals lost 2-1 to Kampala Queens FC in a League match played on Wednesday at the IUIU Kabojja grounds.

The star player who is expected to play a pivotal role for the Uganda Crested Cranes team during the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco says she has always been hungry to reach the 100 goal mark.

“I wanted to reach the 100 goal mark last season, but failed. I have always wanted to score and I have always been setting my targets which I achieve,” says Nassuna.

The 23 year old forward thanked her fellow players, fans and family who have helped her reach this milestone.

Her mother Annet Nakimbugwe admits that her daughter is a talented footballer. “It is no surprise that she is now the leading Ugandan footballer who has scored 100 goals in the League. I am happy she has set that record,” said Nakimbugwe.

Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi, Uganda’s U-20 Women’s national team coach also praises Nassuna for her hard work. “It is not by chance that she has managed to score 100 goals in the League. She works hard as a player and she deserves that milestone of reaching the 100 goal mark,” added the coach.

According to the FUFA statistics and records, Nassuna scored her first goal in a game where her side (Kawempe Muslim) beat Kakira Women FC 7-0 on February 15, 2015.

She managed to bag 14 goals in her maiden FUFA Women Elite season.

In the next season (2015/16) continued to prove she was a special talent after scoring 18 goals.

In her third and final year with Kawempe Muslim she set a record for most goals in a campaign after gathering 26 goals. The record has stood till today.

While at Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC she managed to help the team win three titles after scoring a total of 58 goals.

Nassuna later moved to UCU Lady Cardinals and helped them win the  2018/19 title. She scored 18 goals scooping the Most Valuable Person (MVP) and Top Scorer awards while her side were champions.
