Before concluding his impressive sequence with a goal against Tottenham from the penalty spot. The 2019 African champion had already won the player of the month award in December prior to the AFCON in Cameroon in January 2022. He becomes the second Manchester City player to win the player of the month award more than once this season, alongside midfielder Bernardo Silva.

Riyard Mahrez has 22 goals in 31 appearances in all competitions this season. He has also led the team to the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League after Manchester City played a goalless draw with Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday night but qualified following their fine away 5-0 win.

Mahrez, Guardiola and Manchester City are chasing their first ever European continental trophy after they lost the finals last season to Chelsea. They are also in line for a treble thus season as the lead the race in the English Premier League. They also made it through to the quarter finals of the FA cup where they will face Southampton on March 20th.
