Morocco threatens to pull out of CHAN 2022

Morocco threatens to pull out of CHAN 2022

The executive Committee of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation shepherd by Fouzi Lekjaa, has unanimously decided that they will not participate in the next edition of African Nations Championship in Algeria, if there is no possibility of a chartered flight from Rabat to Constantine. This information has been heralded by several media outlets across the continent.

The statement only comes to add to the many uncertainties surrounding the competition billed for January 13 next year.

It was the Uganda Cranes who started all the gimmicks when FUFA president Magogo – threatened to pull out due to financial constraints. That, was however, handled by the Ugandan Goverment.

Team Cameroon equally had some twitches due to its strained relationship with Algeria and fear of insecurities, but the Cameroon Football Federation looks well and truely ready for the competition.

All of a sudden, it is now the turn of Morocco, holders and the most successfully team of the competition, to ‘bare fangs’ on Algeria. If Morocco finally pulls back, it will be a huge problem for CAF who will not have their defending champions on board. Morocco defeated Mali in the 2020 final, becoming the first nation to win back-to-back titles after their 2018 victory against Nigeria. Morocco, fresh from a successful World Cup campaign with the senior team, look to dominate at the local scene once more.

The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) is yet to reply to the query posed by Fouzi Lekjaa and his team.

Morocco are placed in group C of the African Nations Championship alongside Sudan, Madagascar and Ghana.
