'' My goal is to qualify Ghana For World Cup'' - Milovan Rajevac

The coach of the Black Stars of Ghana Milovan Rajevac after the elimination of his side from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) says his goal has been to qualify the team for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

He was speaking at the press conference after his team lost to debutants Comoros in the last group game as they go crashing out of the competition. Ghana lost to Comoros 2-3 and ended the competition with just a point.

"I came to Ghana to qualify the team for the World Cup. That is my primary target. I will stay and lead the team in the March play-offs,” Milovan Rajevac said.

This is the poorest performance for team Ghana in the AFCON in the last 16 years. The last time the Black Stars were eliminated at the group stage of the competition was back in 2006.

Since then, the team has gone on to appear in six consecutive semi-finals. The only time they failed to achieve this feat was back in 2019 when they ended at the group stage. In the last sixteen years, they have won two silver medals and a bronze.

Their elimination is a big blow and many are observers who doubt if Rajevac will keep his job.

The Serbian tactician first joined Ghana in August 2008. He took them to the 2010 FIFA World Cup in which they lost in the penalty shootouts to Uruguay. He quit Ghana after the World Cup on September 8,2010.

He will later return to join the Black Stars  in September 2021.
