NFF Presidency: Pinnick shelves third term bid, vows to work with successor

Pinnick drops third term bid

The President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick has reinstated that he will not seek to continue as NFF President.

Pinnick, who has been in office since 2014, becoming the first Nigerian to hold the position of the NFF president for two terms, is expected to leave office at the expiration of this tenure on September 20, 2022.

Earlier in March, the Delta-born football administrator, who was formerly the first Vice President of CAF, declared he will not seek a third term in office as NFF president.

However, this week, the FIFA Council member admits to Kenyan newspaper on the sidelines of CAF General Assembly, that he has been receiving appeals from eminent Nigerians to remain in office.

To quash insinuations, Pinnick on Arise TV on Monday morning, insisted against seeking another term, while assuring that he will work with whoever succeed him after the September elections.

"I am fine. There are so many Nigerians that are capable of being there (NFF President). I will assist and work with anyone who wins the elections," Pinnick said.

"I will work with whoever emerges as NFF President. That i promise. I will intervene but will not interfere," Pinnick concluded.

Meanwhile, the NFF have rescheduled its Annual General Assembly earlier billed for August 16 in Yenegoa now for August 18 in Lagos, according to its First Vice President, Seyi Akinwunmi, who also doubles as the Chairman of Lagos State Football Association.

On this, Pinnick has confirmed that upcoming AGM will also serve as the pre-elective Congress meeting to draw up an election roadmap for the 2022 NFF Election.
