Nigeria Football Federation have announced the sacking of coaching crew of the Super Eagles led by Augustine Eguavoen following the team's failure to qualify for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
In a statement on Thursday by the NFF spokesman, Ademola Olajire, the disengagement of the entire technical crew of the team takes immediate effect.
The statement alerted that the country's football body had plan to offer a two-and-half years contracts to the crew should they have won the World Cup ticket.
However, the unfortunate playoffs crash had not only dashed their hopes for new contracts but also cost them the jobs.
"The NFF has in the meantime withdrawn the two-and-half years contract offered the coaches and terminated the appointment of the entire technical crew of the team with immediate effect," said NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi.
"A new crew will be announced after a proper review to lead the new charge of reinvigorating the Super Eagles to face future challenges appropriately.
“We thank the coaches and team officials for their service to the nation and wish them success in their future endeavours."
The development means Eguavoen, who took over the team on interim basis in December ahead of the Afcon 2021, becomes the second coach to lose his coaching role after Algeria following their nations crash from the playoffs.
Eguavoen's failed qualification attempt to the World Cup with Nigerian side is the second time, repeating the same disappointing feat while in charge in 2006.
In the meantime, the NFF have confirmed plans to engage a substantial replacement in the coming days ahead of the Afcon 2023 qualifiers.
