Olympic Games 2024-last round: Morocco do well in Zambia, Nigeria win at home

Morocco and Nigeria have taken an option for qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. They respectively beat Zambia (1-2) and South Africa (1-0), in the first leg of the 4th and final round of Olympic qualifying.

Morocco are taking a good option for qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The Atlas Lionesses defeated Zambia 2-1 on Friday April 5 in Lusaka, as part of the 4th and final round of qualifying for the Olympic women's soccer tournament. The Moroccans opened the scoring late in the first half with a goal from Zineb Redouani (45+1). However, Lushomo Mweemba equalised for Zambia in the 80th minute. But Rosella Ayane crucified the Cooper Queens at the very end of the match (90+1). The Moroccans have thus completed a good operation ahead of the return leg on April 9 in Rabat. Morocco are aiming for their first appearance at the Olympic Games.

Nigeria do the minimum at home

Nigeria were also victorious. The Super Falcons did the essential at home in the first leg of the final qualifying round for the women's soccer tournament at the Paris Olympics. Up against South Africa, the reigning African champions, they won by the slimmest of margins, thanks in no small part to a penalty converted by Rasheedat Ajibade. Nigeria won a penalty late in the first half after Chiwendu Ihezuo was fouled in the box. Ajibade gave his team a narrow lead ahead of the return leg in Johannesburg on April 9.

It was also the Super Falcons' first win over South Africa since the 2018 WAFCON final. Nigeria last took part in the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008. The Nigerians missed out on the London 2012, Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Games.
