PSG vs Nice: Terem Moffi the Super Eagle at the Parc

Nice beat Paris Saint-Germain 3-2 to open Ligue 1 Matchday 5 on Friday, thanks to a brace from striker Terem Moffi. The Nigerian international, who also scored an assist, gave the Parisian defense a hard time with a fine performance.

Terem Moffi celebrates his brace at the Parc des Princes.

With a brace, an assist and a celebration that had Kylian Mbappé on the edge of his seat, Terem Moffi gave Paris Saint-Germain a nightmare evening. And while the return from international break often brings surprises for the following weekend, the club de la capitale has clearly not learned the lessons of the past, with the Nigerian international in the role of executioner. Or rather the troublemaker, on an evening marked by the Red and Blue's tribute to Marco Verratti. Having come to bid farewell to the Parc des Princes crowd and his team-mates after 11 years with the club, the Italian international saw the Super Eagle steal the show once kick-off was given.

For 80 minutes, Terem Moffi made light work of Milan Skriniar and Danilo with disconcerting ease. Somewhat unlucky for the opening goal, when his shot was deflected by Lucas Hernandez (21st), the former Lorient man showed all his talent for his team's 3rd goal with a solitary raid, before putting Danilo in the wind and punctuating his run with a shot into the corner of the net by Donnarumma, who was once again forced to collect the ball from the back of the net (69th). In the meantime, he had turned provider for Gaëtan Laborde, after again putting Danilo to the sword, to restore his side's lead after the Parisians had equalised (53rd).

The Parc air-conditioned, Mbappé annoyed

An XXL match and an already iconic celebration as he waved his shirt in front of a chilled Parc du Parc crowd. The Parisians, led by Kylian Mbappé, were annoyed. The PSG captain had a few choice words for him. But Moffi didn't care: he had just guided his team to success. Replaced by Jérémie Boga for the final ten minutes, he was able to leave the pitch with a sense of accomplishment, although he feared a Parisian comeback in the closing moments after Mbappé, who had also scored twice, had pulled one back. But with this result, Moffi will eclipse the Parisian captain in the evening's discussions.

Terem Moffi, who scored his first goal of the season against Strasbourg the previous day, had already been one of the architects of Les Aiglons' first league win of the season. With his performance this evening, he confirms the confidence placed in him by his coach, Francesco Farioli."I'd seen many, many of Terem's games, first at Lorient and then here at Nice. I was struck by the qualities of the player, who has great physical strength and speed. He's becoming more and more complete," commented the Italian coach, who was delighted to see his striker confirm his words on the pitch.
