Qatar 2022: Africa’s hope on Morocco as they take on Spain

Morocco against Spain is one of the truncated posters for the round of 16 in this World Cup. Just like against another power house, the Africans are poised for a major football upset as they face a young but determined Spanish side and the round of 16 in Qatar.

Morocco remains the last hope for an entire continent as Cameroon, Tunisia, Ghana and recently Sénégal have all crashed out of the on going FIFA World Cup competition in Qatar. The Moroccans who have qualified for the first time in 36 years to the knockout – will have the difficult task of defeating Spain. The encounter is already shaping up to be the most exciting of this round.

The Atlas Lions face Spain, at the Education City Stadium – in a game that could prove to be a tough fixture for Luis Enrique and his men.

Morocco arrived this stage in style. With a victory against Belgium, Canada and a draw against Croatia, as Walid Regragui’s players largely deserved their first spot. Spain finished runners-up in their group after a defeat suffered against Japan.

For La Roja, it all started wonderfully with a crushing victory over Costa Rica (7-0) before they shared spoils against Germany and lost against Japan.

The last confrontation between Morocco and Spain dates back to 2018, at the last World Cup, in the group stage which ended two-all.

The game is set for Tuesday, Dec. 6, 4:00 p.m., at the Education City Stadium.

The probable line up of the starting 11 of Morocco:
Bounou – Hakimi, Saïss, Aguerd, Mazraoui – Ounahi, Amrabat, Sabiri – Ziyech, En-Nesyri, Boufal.

The possible line up of the Spain team

Simon – Azpilicueta, Rodri, Laporte, Alba – Gavi, Busquets, Pedri – Ferran Torres, Morata, Dani Olmo.
