Rwanda has become a sports hub in recent years with the organisation of several international competitions. The country of a thousand hills wants to rely on sport to impose itself in Africa and in the world. Rwanda's Minister of Sports, Aurore Mimosa Munyangaju expressed her government's vision and the importance of the Basketball Africa League (BAL).
"The government of Rwanda appreciates the collaboration with the Basketball Africa League. This League contributes to the development of African sports and has an impact on the economy of our countries. The fact that this year the organization is expanding to three cities, Dakar, Cairo and Kigali, shows the ambition of the BAL. This contributes to the development of tourism. When we talk about this sector, we are talking about the economy. In 2021, we were able to organize the 1st edition in a context of Covid-19. It was a success despite the restrictions. This year, we want to do more and show once again the know-how of Rwanda. The BAL allows us to develop our organizational capacity. It gives visibility to the country through tourism. In addition, this competition allows our clubs to be competitive and helps the federation to be better structured. We need the BAL but above all the transformative power of sport to promote our country. We will discuss with the BAL how to review this partnership beyond 2023".
