Fresh from defeating Real Bamako in the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup a few days ago, Young Africans stopped Geita Gold FC 3-1 in a Tanzania Premier League match played on Sunday at the Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam.
Elias Maguli gave Geita Gold the lead after 20 minutes, but second half goals by Kennedy Musonda, Clement Mzize and Jesus Moloko were enough to ensure Young Africans picked maximum points.
“I am happy that we scored three goals against Geita and won the match. We need to keep working hard because there are still many matches to be played this season,” said Young Africans SC head coach Coach Nasreddine Nabi.
Young Africans SC team re-opened an 8-point lead on the lo where they now have 65 points from 24 matches played, while their rivals Simba SC who beat Mtibwa Sugar Fc 3-0 on Saturday have 57 points.
In the other matches played on Sunday third placed Singida Big Stars FC were held to a 1-1 draw by Coastal Union FC, while Dodoma Jiji Fc defeated Polisi Tanzania 2-1.
Singida Big Stars FC are third on the log with 48 points from 25 matches played, while Azam FC have 47 points after 24 matches played. Ihefu FC will host Azam FC on Monday.
