Tennis - Wimbledon - Ons Jabeur: "I'll try to get my revenge"

Ons Jabeur will be playing in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon 2023. The Tunisian, in search of her first Grand Slam, will cross swords with Elena Rybakina. The same player who beat her in the final in 2022. The perfect opportunity to return the favour to her future opponent.

Ons Jabeur was on top form on Monday 10 July. In the last 16 of Wimbledon, the Tunisian beat Czech Petra Kvitová in two sets (6-0, 6-3). The 28-year-old put on a demonstration performance to qualify for the quarter-finals of the London major. Despite a first set in which she recited her tennis, she never let up. "When I won the first set 6-0, I told myself that nothing was decided," explained Jabeur after the match.

In the quarter-finals, Ons Jabeur will meet Elena Rybakina. It's a match with a special flavour, as it will be a rematch of last year's final. The Russian beat the Tunisian in three sets (3-6, 6-2, 6-2).She promised to come back strongly after that setback. The rematch will take place on Wednesday 12 July. And for Jabeur, it will be an opportunity to perhaps erase the insult of a year ago. "I'll be trying to get my revenge. It was a difficult final and a lot of memories will come back to me. I hope to play like I did today and win, because she's a very strong and ruthless player," said Jabeur after her success in the last 16.

The 28-year-old Tunisian also stressed the importance of the London crowd in her success. They took up her cause. And that gave her an extra boost."You have no idea of the energy you give me. I just want to win every match because I want to see you the next day. Don't forget that because I'm playing against Rybakina. A message of self comfort, but above all a desire to have all the weapons on her side. Because beyond the desire for personal revenge, history could be in the making for Ons jabeur. In search of her first Grand Slam, she could also become the first African to win a major.
