Transfer News: Yassine Bounou at PSG?

Paris Saint-Germain are in the market for a number 2 goalkeeper, and have set their sights on Moroccan Yassine Bounou. According to RMC Sport, Sevilla are waiting 15 million euros to let go of their Atlas Lion.

Another Moroccan international at Paris SG after Achraf Hakimi? It could just be a matter of time. Indeed, Paris Saint-Germain are looking for a new goalkeeper to replace Sergio Rico, who suffered a serious accident. With the market for goalkeepers extremely complicated, the choice of the Parisian directors and new coach Luis Enrique is Yassine Bounou (32). On Friday July 14, RMC Sport reported that PSG had entered into transfer talks with the Moroccan international goalkeeper. Sevilla are expecting to pay around €15 million for the player. The Andalusian club, which is in serious financial difficulties, has put its entire squad on the transfer market to replenish its coffers.

More than just Donnarumma's understudy?

The question of Yassine Bounou's status as a Paris SG player is open to debate. Number 2 or number 1? Seeing the Moroccan national team's first-choice goalkeeper content with a number 2 position at PSG, especially just a few months before the start of the 2023 African Cup of Nations with Morocco considered one of the favourites for this competition, does not seem a relevant option. But bringing him in as a direct competitor to Gianluigi Donnarumma could be the main objective of the Parisian directors. With Luis Enrique at the helm of the French champions, the Italian goalkeeper's status as a starter could be called into question.

Unconvincing after 2 seasons in the French capital, the 2020 European champion still has some glaring shortcomings. This is particularly true of his aerial skills and, above all, his poor footwork. Spaniard and former FC Barcelona coach, Luis Enrique would be more inclined to sign Yassine Bounou, considered to be one of La Liga's most valuable assets. The Atlas Lions goalkeeper is more confident in goal and, unlike Donnarumma, is less known for his blunders. Luis Enrique has already experienced this situation with two good goalkeepers during the 2015 treble (LDC, Liga, Copa), with healthy competition between Claudio Bravo and Marc-André Ter Stegen. If PSG and Sevilla can reach an agreement on the transfer of Yassine Bounou, we could see the same configuration again.
