Jean-Charles Castelletto wants to force his way out of FC Nantes, and has resorted to a boycott to achieve his ends. His coach has come out in force to criticize his behavior.
The torch is burning between FC Nantes and Jean-Charles Castelletto. The Cameroonian defender wants to leave the Canaris. After several offers, the 28-year-old feels that the club did not consider them properly. As a result, he has decided to boycott the Ligue 1 Matchday 3 fixture against Monaco on Friday August 25. A decision that does not please his coach at all. Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Pierre Aristouy blasted his defender.
"I don't think it's ever a good solution. If there was a problem, it could have been solved a long time ago. In any case, I'm not a fan of this kind of method, but there's only one thing I'm interested in: the interests of FC Nantes. As soon as FC Nantes' interests are flouted, I don't like it (...) As I speak, meetings are being set up between the directors and Jean-Charles' representatives, but a priori he won't be playing (this weekend, editor's note)."
Turkey to save the day?
Jean-Charles Castelletto was expecting to move to other countries this summer. In particular, Turkey showed a keen interest in the former Brest player. First, Besiktas came calling. Secondly, Trabzonspor have made an offer of 2.5 million euros. However, Nantes is waiting for interested clubs to pay his €8 million release clause. The player's contract runs until June 2026.
At Nantes since 2020, Jean-Charles Castelletto is a key player in the center of defense. In his first season, he played 27 games, including 24 as a starter. This was followed by 31 first-team appearances in 2021-2022, before starting 43 out of 46 games the following season. In 2023-2024, he started the 1st day of Ligue 1. But with the mercato due to end in a week's time, the Cameroon international sees himself in a hurry, hence his decision to leave in a hurry. It remains to be seen whether he will win his case.
