The U-20 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers for the Central of East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) kicks off today in Khartoum, Sudan.
Djibouti will face Burundi in the opening Group A match, while hosts Sudan take on South Sudan in the second match. The two matches will be played at the Al Hilal Stadium in Omdurman.
Yussf Mossi, the CECAFA Competitions Director has made it clear that they are prepared to have a successful tournament. “We are happy with all the arrangements by the Sudan Football Association and all the teams are happy with arrangements,” added Mossi.
Dr. Mutasim Gafaar, the SFA President also made it clear that they are ready to host a successful tournament.
“We thank the Government for coming forward to support us so that we are able to host this event. Our team is also well prepared for the competition,” added the SFA President. Sudan last hosted an international football tournament in 2014.
On Saturday the reigning champions Uganda Kobs will battle Tanzania in the only Group B match that will take place.
The qualifiers that have attracted seven teams will climax on November 11th with the best two teams qualifying for the U-20 AFCON 2023 to be held in Egypt.
Group A: Sudan, Djibouti, South Sudan, Burundi
Group B: Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia
