U23 AFCON (Gr.B): An explosive 3rd and final day

Group B is the most tightly contested of this U23 Africa Cup of Nations. The second day, played on Wednesday 28 June, put everything back into question, with Niger (1st, 4 points), Egypt (2nd, 4 points) and Mali (3rd, 3 points) all within touching distance of each other.

Group B has played its second day of the U23 AFCON. But the results recorded on Wednesday 28 June have changed everything in this group. All will be decided on the final day. Especially as leaders Niger (4 points) are just one point ahead of Egypt (2nd, 4 points) and Mali (3rd, 3 points). Only Gabon is already out of the running.

Mena as a surprise

While Mali and Egypt were expected to be at the top of Pool B, it was Niger's Mena who came out on top. The Nigerians beat Gabon 1-0 on the second day to keep their chances of qualifying for the next round of the CAN U23 intact. With four points, their final match against Mali on 1 July will be a big final. Niger held Egypt to a goalless draw in their group opener.

Egypt in pole position to qualify
The Pharaohs of Egypt are the best placed team in this group to qualify for the second round of the CAN U23. The Egyptians dominated Mali by the narrowest of margins.
