The Uganda Crested Cranes will camp in Marrakech, Morocco for one week ahead of the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2022.
Edgar Watson, the Chief Executive Officer of the Federation of Uganda Football Federation (FUFA) confirmed to Sports News Africa that they have decided the team camps outside the country.
“It is very important that the team travels to camp in Morocco for one week before shifting to Rabat where the Group will be based,” said Watson.
The WAFCON 2022 that will attract 12 teams pooled in three groups will take place in Casablanca and Rabat between July 3-23rd.
Uganda Crested Cranes who qualified after Kenya pulled out in the last phase of the qualifiers are placed in Group A alongside the hosts Morocco, Burkina Faso and Senegal.
George William Lutalo, the head coach of the Uganda Crested Cranes made it clear that they are getting in shape for the tournament. “The recent CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship where we played five matches also helped us tune up well,” added Lutalo.
Lutalo’s team beat Burundi 3-1 a week ago to win the regional CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship held at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru in Uganda.
Burundi are the other team from the CECAFA region that will also feature in the WAFCON competition.
The other teams that will feature in the WAFCON competition include record winners Nigeria, South Africa, Botswana, Cameroon, Zambia, Tunisia and Togo.
