Indomitable Lions marksman Vincent Aboubakar has admitted that he said “no” to Cristiano Ronaldo’s plea to have him stay at Al Nassr, before the end of the winter window.
In January, Al-Nassr popped up with a shocker when they signed Cristiano Ronaldo. In return, the Saudi club had to part company with a foreign player, to create space, and Vincent Aboubakarr returned to Besiktas.
Asked about the subject on the show Talents d’Afrique, the Cameroonian international said he had an exchange with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, who tried to ask him to stay back.
“We talked a bit and his opinion was that he wanted me to stay. I told him no, that I will leave. He asked me where my family was, I told him in France and so I prefer to go to Turkey, it’s closer. And he told me ‘it’s better, if your family is really far away, it’s more complicated”
“I was firm, I wanted to leave,” the 31-year-old striker said before adding;
“I left a little angry because it was not easy”, underlined the man who scored two goals at the 2022 World Cup.
“When Cristiano Ronaldo arrived, coach Rudi Garcia called me to his office and told me that normally an international player is going to have to leave, either me or Masharipov. I told him that I already wanted to leave before and, honestly, as Cristiano was coming, my playing time will be reduced and it was better for me to leave. I had proposals, including that of Besiktas. Afterwards, to leave, it was a bit complicated, the club did not want me to leave. They wanted me to stay until the end of the season. I told the president I’ll honestly prefer to leave. It was a bit complicated but in the end they let me go.”
Vincent Aboubakar was linked to several clubs but made the choice to Join his former side Beşiktaş for a third stint.
Since his return, Vincent Aboubakar has played over 240 minutes in 4 games. Beşiktaş are placed fourth in the 19-team championship with 40 points, 14 adrift of leaders Galatasaray.
