WAFCON 2022: Host Morocco into the last eight - Highlights

After Senegal, Morocco also validates its ticket to the quarterfinals of the quarter finals on home soil as the expectations will be. The Atlas Lionesses have taken the best against Uganda (3-1) on Tuesday, July 5. With this second victory in two games in group A, they pocketed six points and take the first place in the group ahead of Senegal.

In front of its public, Morocco played better than in their first group game though their opponents of the day themselves had good intentions to fight for their survival in the competition but still managed to overcome Uganda. The Moroccans were the first to shine in this match thanks to a penalty converted by Rosella Ayane (14th). A penalty that was somewhat controversial. The Togolese referee did not deem the action worthy and refused to point to the spot. She was later called by VAR to review the play. Her decision changed and she awarded the penalty that put the host ahead. The Ugandans set the record straight in the 32nd minute by S. Komuntale who scored a fine left footed free kick to level matters.

Morocco will then push to go back in front. Nesryne El Chad finally gave them the lead in the 68th minute, before G. Chebbak finally sealed the match (84th). For their third and last group match, the Atlas Lionesses will face the Lionesses of Teranga for the place in group A.
