It is becoming even more difficult and complicated for the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon at the on going Women's AFCON in Morocco. Tipped one of the favorites to win the competition, the team led by Gabriel Zabo is rather showing off signs of overall weakness. They have been less impressive overall, creating less chances and scoring even lesser goals than in any previous competition.
After a goalless draw against Zambia in the opening game of group B of the 2022 African Cup of Nations, Cameroon had another very difficult 1-1 draw against Togo (4th, 1 point). The Indomitable Lionesses were trailing in the 28th minute of play.
They actually dominated the game against new comers Togo who could only recover from a 4-1 defeat in their opener against Tunisia. Togo benefits from a rare attacking play upfront and send the ball into Cameroon's penalty box only for the goalkeeper to misjudge her outing, landing on a Togolese attacker in the air, rather than the ball. The collision necessitated a review by the VAR. Penalty awarded and transformed by Togolese attacker Woedikou.
Fortunately, Estelle Johnson (38th) allowed Cameroon to get back on the scoreboard, after the heading home a cross from captain Onguene. Cameroon (3rd, 2 points) then lost ground and offered the leadership to Zambia (4 points) who beat (1-0) earlier Tunisia (2nd, 3 points).
As it stands Cameroon must win against Tunisia in the final group game if they intend to extend their stay in Morocco.
