Women's Afrobasket 2023: Nigeria Mali Cameroon and Rwanda take the quarter

The Afrobasket Féminin 2023 reached its third day of competition on Sunday, July 30. Three-time defending champions Nigeria booked their place in the quarter-finals, as did hosts Rwanda. Senegal, on the other hand, missed out completely with a second defeat in as many outings.

Nigeria unroll, Rwanda reach quarters despite defeat

Nigeria-Egypt was the clash of the day in Group D on Sunday July 30. The two teams, victorious in their opening game of the 2023 Afrobasket Féminin, were battling it out for a place in the quarters.In the end, it was Nigeria, the three-time defending champions, who clinched the ticket with a clear 83-65 victory.Amy Okonkwo (29 points) was particularly impressive. On the Egyptian side, Nadine Mohamed Sayed Soliman Mohamed scored just 14 points, after 34 on Saturday.

Rwanda was another nation to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Afrobasket Féminin 2023 on Sunday. The hosts lost to Angola in Group A 74-68 after extra time.However, Cheikh Sarr's players are still in the lead, having the same number of points as Angola and Côte d'Ivoire (3 pts) but with a better goal-average (+23) than the Angolans (2nd, 3 pts, +3) and Côte d'Ivoire (3 pts -26).

Cameroon in the running, Mali crush Senegal

Cameroon will also be in the quarter-finals of this Afrobasket. The Indomitable Lionesses beat Guinea in Group B on Sunday. Final score, 70-50. Like Cameroon, Mali have qualified directly for the quarter-finals. Thanks to a second 72-49 win over Senegal in Group C, the Malians are through to the quarter-finals. Senegal, on the other hand, suffered their second defeat in as many outings.
