World Athletics: Christine Mboma authorized to run in 2024

Christine Mboma could make her return to the track in 2024.Presenting a difference in sexual development, the Namibian has been kept off the track by World Athletics' new rules. The 200 m Olympic runner-up had to undergo treatment to lower her testosterone levels. Now that the treatment has been completed, she is authorized by World Athletics to compete in the 100m and 200m events.

Sidelined by World Athletic's ban on athletes with differences in sexual development, Christine Mboma has been cleared to compete in the 100m and 200m events. Her coach Henk Botha gave the news on Tuesday November 21. However, she will not be able to compete in the 400m. "She won't be able to compete in the other events for another year and a half," Botha said.

At the beginning of the year, World Athletics established new rules on Testosterone levels. The body had announced that female athletes with differences in sexual development would have to reduce their blood testosterone levels to below 2.5 nanomoles per liter, compared with five previously, and would have to remain below this threshold for two years in order to compete internationally in the women's category in any athletics event. Namibians Christine Mboma and Beatrice Masilingi, as well as Nigerian Aminatou Seyni, were then excluded from the Budapest World Championships.

A 400m specialist, Christine Mboama was forced to compete in the 200m.She even won silver at the Tokyo Olympics. Under the new World Athletics rules, Christine Mboma had to undergo treatment to lower her testosterone levels. Having done so, she hopes to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. "We will now focus on qualifying her for the Paris Olympics by continuing her preparation," said her coach.
