Ghana is looking to regenerate its team in preparation for the 2022 World Cup and the next African events. The Black stars have registered the arrival of several binationals including Inaki Wiliams and Tariq Lamptey.
Ghana has struck several big blows. A number of dual nationals will be joining the Black stars. First, we have Inaki Williams (Athletic Bilbao) who will wear the national jersey. While he has already worn that of Spain (1 selection) in 2016.
Iñaki Williams is a sure thing in the Spanish La Liga. Formed in Bilbao, the 28-year-old player has been playing there since 2014. He managed his best season there in 2018/2019 with 15 goals and 4 assists. While his "worst" season since he earned his starting berth in 2015, was 2020/2021. In total, the striker has made 338 appearances for the Basques. He has scored 75 goals and provided 47 assists. He will not be the only addition to Ghana's squad for the World Cup.
Tariq Lamptey (Brighton), Stephen Ambrosius (Hamburg), a 23-year-old central defender and former German U-21 international, Ransford-Yeboah Koningsdorffer (Hamburg), a 21-year-old striker and also a former German U-21 international and Patric Pfeiffer (SV Darmstadt 98), a 22-year-old central defender who played for the German U-18 and U-19 teams. In addition, Inaki's younger brother Nico Williams could also be added to the squad. Eliminated in the first round at the last Africa Cup of Nations, Ghana are looking to bounce back.
Tariq Lamptey's good move
The president of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Simeon Edwin Okraku, has expressed his satisfaction with the "signings". He said it "means a lot to the Black Stars team". Amongst these players, the biggest coup is undoubtedly that of having convinced Tariq Lamptey.
The player, considered a great hope at Chelsea, plays for Brighton. This season, the 21-year-old full-back has made 30 Premier League appearances, 16 of them as a starter. He has provided two assists. His activity, speed and availability on the right side of the pitch are bound to be key assets. At the 2022 World Cup, Ghana will be in group H. The Black stars will face Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea.
