World Cup 2022 play-offs: Algeria to train in Equatorial Guinea

Algeria will carry out a four-day training camp in Malado, Equatorial Guinea to prepare the first leg of the World Cup 2022 play-off against Cameroon on March 26. They will prepare in a country bordering Cameroon to avoid the scenario of the last AFCON 2021.

After the debacle in the African Cup of Nations, Algeria is already preparing for the 2022 World Cup playoffs. The Fennecs will face the Indomitable Lions on 26 and 29 March. To avoid the scenario of the AFCON with notably the high heat in Cameroon, the 2019 African champions will be in training in Equatorial Guinea. The Algerian delegation will arrive in Malabo on 21 March on a special flight from Paris. The Greens will spend four days in Malabo before heading to Cameroon on 24 March, the day before the match.

"Djahid Zefizef, the new manager of the national team, has been abroad since February 9 to prepare the logistics of the upcoming training camp. He first went to the capital of Equatorial Guinea, Malabo, where he organized the stay of the Greens. Afterwards, he began to inspect the place of preparation of the Algerian selection. The Fennecs will have to carry out a four-day training camp in Malabo, before heading to Yaoundé," the Algerian website DZfoot reported.

For the Algerian media, "the choice of the Equatoguinean capital is purely strategic, since the city is located one hour by plane from the Cameroonian capital and has the same geographical characteristics. Nothing is left to chance by Djamel Belmadi who wants to prepare his players in conditions similar to those of Yaounde, in order to put them in situation before giving the reply to the Indomitable Lions.

For this double confrontation, Algeria's coach Belmadi will have to do without Youcef Attal. The Nice right-back is out of the squad due to injury.
